Eighteen Months

Emerson Kate has reached the ripe old age of 18 months. It’s flying by while standing still all at the same time. I’m sure the parents reading this know what we mean.

We went to the doc for her semiannual checkup the other day and learned what we already expected. She’s perfect in every way. She’s super tall, thin but not too skinny, incredibly smart, beautiful, nailing all her assessments, way ahead of the intelligence curve, and will probably sprout wings and fly to Heaven because she’s an angel. How’s that for favoritism?

But to be more specific… Emmy Kate is 33″ tall, 23 lbs., and has an importantly normal-sized head. Our daughter sat still for 1 minute and 46 seconds the other day. And yes, that’s an improvement.

What kept her still, you may wonder…? The Three Amigos. Yes, the 1986 movie starring Steve Martin, Chevy Chase & Martin Short. The Horn progeny loves the song and dance number, “My Little Buttercup”. Like repeat on 100x over loves it. She’ll get down and make some serious dance moves happen on the carpet, which would give true meaning to “cut a rug”.

We expanded her horizons recently with “Blue Shadows” from the same comedic film, in which she gently sways back and forth sitting idly on the couch as she calls out the various desert animals that make an appearance during the number. Sitting idly still, for 1:46.

The parents are working on getting rid of the “muh muh” until sleep time. That’s going to be an interesting conquest.

Sentences are now a thing. ish. There are a lot of hands out to the side, palms up with the upward voice inflection. What’s that, you ask? A question. Yes, the parental team has a feeling the barrage of questions is about to start as we are getting these rudimentary inquiries starting already.
